The Best False Eyelashes for Summer – 3 Styles to Keep Your Look Fresh and Summer-Ready

false eyelashes, fake lashes, summer makeup, summer lashes, natural look, natural lashes, summer lashes, natural look, natural lashesI always think of summer as the season where most girls opt for a more natural look: minimal makeup, dewy skin, and casually tousled beach hair. For some of us, however, long and luscious lashes will never go out of style so here are a few ways to achieve beautiful summer-appropriate lashes that look soft, natural, and effortless.   Individual Flare Lashes

I’m wearing Elegant Lashes Individual Flare lashes in Medium, Short, and X-Short (Under)  Black.

These may take longer to apply than regular strip lashes, but they look incredibly natural once they’re on because all the little clusters are applied between your own lashes – not on top of them. (Click here for tutorial on how to apply individual eyelashes. Click here to get your own set.) If you want your lashes to last a bit longer through humidity, perspiration, and excess oil, sweep on a coat of waterproof mascara to bind your false lashes to your natural ones.

Tip: use strip lash glue for easier application and removal. In case you’re wondering why I splashed water all over myself, I simply wanted to find out if using waterproof mascara on my finished lashes would result in waterproof lash wear. I know from personal experience that waterproof eyelash glue sadly isn’t really waterproof, so I tested if waterproof mascara would provide any help.  Judging from the results…false eyelashes, fake lashes, summer makeup, summer lashes, natural look, natural lashes, individual eyelashes, eyelash extensions, lash extensions, girl at pool, girl at beach … there is no such thing as waterproof lash wear. Sure, waterproof mascara can hold a curl and beat sweat, but as for helping false lashes stay on in water…. neither waterproof strip lash glue nor mascara will guarantee all-day hold at the beach or pool. Semi-permanent individual lash glue will work, but apparently not strip lash glue, waterproof or not. See my eyelash falling off at the end? ‘Nuff said. The mascara flakes and smears on my lower lash line are telling me my waterproof mascara isn’t very waterproof, either. XP   Accent lashes, a.k.a., demi lashes or half lashesfalse eyelashes, fake lashes, summer makeup, summer lashes, natural look, natural lashes, accent lashes, demi lashes, half lashes These are really great for beginners since the shorter band provides great control.  Accent lashes are applied on the outer corners of your eyes, giving you a cat-eye effect that’s sexy for summer but not as dramatic as a full strip lash. I’m wearing Elegant Lashes #315 Black and let me tell you: they are a must-have!false eyelashes, fake lashes, summer makeup, summer lashes, natural look, natural lashes, accent lashes, demi lashes, half lashes Can’t find an accent lash that suits your needs? No worries. You can always make your own pair of accent lashes by trimming off the inner corner – or outer corner, depending on your eye shape and the look you’re going for – of a regular strip lash.   Speaking of strip lashes… on to my all-time favorite summer lash style EVER!!     Brown Strip Lashes (any kind!) brown false eyelashes, summer makeup tips Brown lashes truly are the gems of the eyelash world. They’re great for creating a more “casual” or daytime-friendly look due to the subtle and soft effect they create on your eyes – perfect for wearing in the warmer months of summer. No need to worry about looking too dolled up when you wear these chocolate-y bad boys! I’m especially loving all the random, uneven, fuzzy hairs on these RDW Brown lashes. Makes my fake lashes look so darn-diddly natural. Gah, I love brown lashes!! XD***   If you haven’t tried brown lashes yet, I highly recommend you pick up a Brownie Lash Kit from our site! It’s a fun kit filled with twelve of our most popular brown lashes from our huge collection. (The RDW Brown lashes I’m wearing in the photo above are included!) Elegant Lashes #028 Brown False Eyelashes (Yay, Product Review!)

Pardon me, blonde Asian coming through.

shyne sunny wearing elegant lashes #028 Brown Human Hair False Eyelashes

I just tried a style I thought was a little weird-looking. It’s called #028 Brown and it looks like this:elegant lashes #028 Brown human hair false eyelashes in packaging

brown human hair false eyelashes

I think I’ve said numerous times that I’m a big fan of the spiky style lashes rather than the ones with even lengths. However, this style was a little too chunky-spiky for me, and the spikes were a little too few and far between for my liking.

028 Brown False Eyelash_LRG

However…… I will never forget the time we temporarily ran out of the #028 Black for a little while and people were freaking out and yelling at us to bring it back ASAP. Sheesh.

So…  somebody out there must like these chunky spikes.

I never tried it, though, so I couldn’t judge… until like 10 minutes ago, when I found an extra pair of #028 Brown lying around and decided to play with it. Yay!

Ok, so how’d it go? Let’s see…

The #028 Brown False Eyelash is part of our Medium Density-Short category. Surprisingly, this is one of the few lashes where I actually think “short” is a good word to describe the length of this style. Actually, it’s not really short, but it is definitely one of the more wearable lengths of our gigantic collection (although this is all completely subjective). I don’t feel self-conscious at all with this length. It’s a pretty natural and believable length. Good job!

side view of Elegant Lashes #028 Brown Human Hair False Eyelashes

I feel like #015 and #028 are very similar styles in that both are very short lashes with very defined spikes that are generally on the more dense side, especially for our Medium Density section.  (The #015 lash has more spikes, is slightly shorter in length than the #028 lash, and has a shorter band, which means you never have to trim it to fit your eyes. You’re welcome.) natural looking short brown false eyelashes

I’m wearing a brown pair, so of course the lash isn’t gonna look all crazy dramatic and as defined as a black pair of the exact same style.

natural false eyelashes, neutral eye shadow makeup

Still, I like the amount of thickness in this lash because it’s not overwhelming or heavy-looking. I don’t know what the #028 Black looks like when worn, but I am completely comfortable with the short length and adequate thickness of this particular brown pair of falsies. 😉

In the packaging, the #028 lashes look kind of scary because they’re so spiky. The spikes actually remind me of those spiked clubs and round nun-chuck things that Vikings and bridge trolls used… you know, these things:

Seriously, every time I look at a pair of #028 lashes, I am reminded of this.

Remember how I mentioned the chunky spikes are few and far between?

I discovered this actually has an unexpectedly cool effect when worn. Because the spikes are so far between and are cut so close to the lash band, you won’t get a big whopping dose of volume…

brown false eyelashes

… but what you WILL get is an effect that is surprisingly very similar to a super-spiky, super-separated lash like #043 Black or #220 Black/Brown.

short natural false eyelashes

See what I mean? Very similar to the effect of wearing  Elegant Lashes #043, #220…. or MAC 7 Lash. (Ha! Didn’t think this would be a lash dupe post, did you? Well, it’s not, but still. Why would you pay $16 for MAC lashes when you can get the same effect and same high quality for soooooooo much less?)

Anyway, that is the #028 Brown false eyelash in a nutshell.

100% Natural Human Hair, flexible and comfortable band, not too long, not too dramatic… definitely not what I thought they would look like when worn. I like ‘em!! 😀

(Bonnie wore them over the weekend and she LOOOOVVES them.)

Try them out here – if I were you, I’d just buy them by the 6-pack since I’ll probably wear them every day and go through them in no time.

Under Lashes for Newbies

Wanna know a secret? I never posted anything on under/bottom/lower false lashes before because most of them are too long for me to wear on my lower lash line. With the exception of #133 and #529 under lashes – both of them about half the length of our other under lashes – I always wore under lashes as top lashes.

Until now.

Elegant Lashes natural looking under / bottom / lower false eyelashes
Yay for new experiences! I’m taking baby steps here, so I wore #049 under lashes in brown (always great for first-timers). Kim Kardashian can get away with dark and dramatic lower eyelashes, but I know my limits, and some faces (like mine) aren’t meant for super long or dark lower lashes. That said…

What is the best choice for those just starting out with under lashes?

Hands down, brown lashes are ALWAYS the best choice for beginners or those just starting to experiment with any kind of false eyelashes. Now, I’m no newbie to falsies, but I certainly am very new to full-strip under lashes, so of course I went for brown under lashes.

Elegant Lashes 049 Brown under bottom lower False Eyelashes

Say hello to Elegant Lashes #049 Brown. It’s been in the Elegant Lashes® family since the beginning of time and is a consistent strong-seller, which is in itself a testimony to its versatility, allure, and time-tested beauty.

So out of the 21 different under lashes I could’ve have chosen, why did I pick #049 Brown?

Honestly, … because that’s what everyone else gets. I figured there must be a reason why this is one of our staple sellers. I think people favor this because it has an overall very classic and unoffensive(?) shape and length that makes it work well both as an under lash and an upper lash. The thin pieces of hair (100% natural human hair, of course!) make it ideal for use as under lashes while the length makes it ideal for wear as a natural and virtually undetectable upper lash.

Natural looking top and bottom false eyelashes by Elegant Lashes 049 Brown

What do you think of my hairy eyes? X) This whole “bottom false eyelash” thing is a very new and interesting experience for me, but with the brown under lashes, I think I could get used to this! I’ve worn #049 Brown as upper lashes, but like I said, this is the first time wearing a longer under lash for its intended purpose, and I honestly don’t think it looks that bad! Of course, they’re too long to be my natural bottom lashes, especially for a person of my ethnicity, but they don’t look too garish to me. (Tell me if they do look garish to you, though! I want your honesty. ;))

natural looking brown bottom false eyealshes (under lashes)

Better picture of the under lashes. Don’t they look so nice and perfectly separated? I really, really like these! 😀 And I love the subtle and understated brown color. Blends nicely with the skin so the bottom lashes look soft, not scary. Yay brown under lashes!

I wanted to focus on my lower lashes for this post, so I downplayed my upper lashes with a sparse false eyelash in relatively the same shape as the #049 Brown under lash. But if you like the sparse and natural look of the lashes I wore on top, here’s what they look like. This particular style is Elegant Lashes #103 Brown:

natural looking brown false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes #103 Brown False Eyelash

Wow, look at that. How interesting. I honestly never even paid attention to this style before, but someone got a whole bunch of these and I got so darn curious I had to check it out. Pretty nice, I say!

Back to the under lashes!

Application Tip:

One thing I noticed with under lashes – if you’re going to use the entire strip, apply it close to the inner corner of your eyes, brown false eyelashes on top and bottom_Elegant Lashes #049 Brown False under eyelashesespecially if the under lash is on the longer side (extending beyond your natural lower lash length). I’m not saying to go so far in as to stab yourself in the tear duct, but I usually place my upper lashes towards the outer corner of my eye to elongate it, and this technique didn’t look so hot with the under lash. It looks funny having a big gaping empty space near the inner corner suddenly bursting into a row of long bottom lashes. So if you want your entire lower lash line to be enhanced with false lashes… apply the false lashes along your entire lower lash line.

Of course, if you’re only applying under lashes to the outer corners of your eyes like I did here and Bonnie did here, you can disregard that whole paragraph above.

shyne sunny_natural looking false eyelashes

Hmm, the more I look at these photos, the more I like the way these brown under lashes look. I like that they’re light in color so it’s not too obvious that I’m wearing under lashes. It makes you do a double-take because there’s something there enhancing the eyes but you can’t quite put your finger on what it might be….

So now that you’ve followed me to the conclusion of my first experience with under lashes, here are the major takeaway points (if you didn’t catch them already):

  • If you’re new at the whole bottom false eyelash thing (correct term is under lash, by the way), or are just unfamiliar with false eyelashes in general, STICK WITH BROWN!! Lots of people give up on under lashes because they get them in black, which looks very harsh and dramatic on most women. Try brown lashes (we have the most brown lashes of any false eyelash brand, so we’re kind of a good place to start. *ahem*) and you’ll find the under lashes don’t look so garish or difficult to wear.
    • Even if the under lash is long, the brown color will blend easily with your skin so the lashes don’t stand out so much. You’ll feel less self-conscious about your under lashes screaming for attention.
  • If you’ve bought a pair of under lashes that were too long for you, DON’T throw them away!! I never even thought of using under lashes on my lower lashes until today. If your false eyelashes are too long for use as under lashes, simply flip them over and use them as upper lashes. I do it all the time, and no one’s arrested me for my crime!
  • Unless you’re cutting up your under lashes and placing them only on the outer corners of your eyes, apply your under lash along the entire lower lash line. It’ll look very weird to have a bald gap in the inner corner and then a sudden shock of long, hairy under lashes sprouting out of nowhere.

I hope this was helpful in some way!

Now that I’ve shared my first-time experience with you, it’s YOUR turn – have you ever tried or considered under lashes? What do you think of the ones in this post? Share your own experiences – did it look awful, great, etc.- in the comments below!

False Eyelashes 101 Tip: How (and Why) to Layer False Eyelashes

Here’s a very useful but little-known tip: like clothes, false eyelashes can be layered to create a completely customized look. Brilliant in its simplicity, layering false lashes is a very handy technique used to add volume, dimension, color, or sparkle to a makeup look. And trust me, it does not look messy. Here are some different ways you can layer your false eyelashes to fit your unique style/mood:

Double up on false eyelashes to create intense volume:

Layering two pairs of the same style of false eyelashes is ideal if you love the shape of a certain style but want more volume. I love the curl and wearable length of Elegant Lashes 824 lashes (I switch off wearing black and brown styles depending on my mood), but one day I wanted to see what I would get if I combined the two and wore them together. Let’s see how that went:

natural looking false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 824 Brown False Eyelashes
First, this is how Elegant Lashes 824 Brown looks on my eyes. When I’m wearing some makeup.
natural looking false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 824 Brown False Eyelashes

Here are the 824 Brown lashes again, on a more naked eye. My natural lashes are completely invisible in this picture, but believe me – they’re there. Somewhere….

Elegant Lashes 824 Brown + Black Mascara

Cool.layering black and brown false eyelashes for natural voluminous lookAdded some 824 Black lashes on top of the 824 Brown. See how there’s instantly more volume? 🙂natural looking false eyelashes_layering black and brown false eyelashes for natural voluminous lookThe complete look. Yay! I loved my lashes this day. Perfect length, extra hairy and full. Me gusta. 😀

Add intensity, definition, and flair:

Sometimes you need more drama. On the eyes, that is. While I can always depend on my trusty #213 Black lashes for a beautiful look, I wanted to have really unique, cool-looking lashes for my birthday. Layering a pair of Elegant Lashes M081 Mystic Lashes on top of the #213 Black false lashes I was already wearing gave me the perfect flair and edginess I was craving. (Sorry, I didn’t take any high-quality close-ups of the eyes, so these snapshots will have to suffice.)
False Eyelashes_Elegant Lashes M081 Mystic Lash and 213 Black False Eyelashes

I LOVED my lashes this day (and my nails – ha!). And I was darn proud of my little birthday lash concoction. Adding a defined spiky false eyelash on top of soft, wispy lashes gives the eyes a very nice lift and accent, with the added bonus of more definition. I am genius.

Try this out for yourself – apply your favorite soft and full lash, and then apply a spiky, more defined lash on top. Your look will change completely. I’ve also paired #045 Black and #220 Black together and really liked what I saw. 😉

Soften or fill out super spiky/sparse false lashes:

If layering false eyelashes can have the effect of intensifying your look, the opposite is also possible. If you feel that a certain lash is a little too intensely spiky or sparse, add a layer of fuller, wispier lashes to soften the look and/or fill out the spaces. Here I applied M355 Mystic Lashes (a criss-cross accent lash) on top of Elegant Lashes #220 Black.

See how the lashes look softer and fuller towards the outer corner? That’s the softening and volumizing effect of layering a sparse, spiky lash with a fuller accent lash.

layered false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 220 Black and M355 Mystic Lashes criss cross accent lashes

Applying accent lashes (mini false eyelashes that are applied on the outer corner of the eye) on top of spiky lashes emphasizes just the outer corners, giving the eyes a nice lift and flirty cat-eye effect. I now always wear my #220 lashes with some kind of accent lash at the ends, because I like the extra oomph, and because … well, because I need all the help I can get. -_-

Add sparkle to ordinary false eyelashes:

Everyone knows that false eyelashes add the perfect finishing touch to any look. But when the occasion calls for something more, layer your favorite falsies with some rhinestone half lashes to add some beautiful, glamorous sparkle. When you don’t want to fuss with a full strip rhinestone eyelash but rhinestone half lashes alone aren’t enough, layering is your best friend.

Elegant Lashes M015 Mystic Lashes and D178 rhinestone false eyelashes

Bonnie paired Elegant Lashes M015 Mystic Lash with D178 Rhinestone Half Lashes applied on the outer ends. She gets the lengthening and volumizing benefits of a full strip lash, while the beautiful rhinestones make this look worthy of any special occasion.

Elegant Lashes M015 Mystic Lashes and D178 rhinestone false eyelashes

When her eyes are open, she has beautiful lashes with just a hint of something special going on. The treat is when she blinks, and the rhinestones glisten as they catch the light. So pretty!

Add color and texture to costume looks:

I love when artists get creative and combine different colors and textures of lashes. There are so many possible combinations, and layering lashes allows you to customize every detail to match your unique vision.

black and white feather eyelashes_Elegant Lashes F131 F404 Patrick Boltinghouse

Above is a photo sent in by the amazingly talented makeup artist Patrick Boltinghouse. Most people are content with using/wearing just one pair of feather eyelashes, but this combination of F131 white feather eyelashes and wispy F404 black feather lashes is to die for! I love how the feathers here are torn and combined to create this whimsical fantasy look.

Bonnie also came up with her own colorful false eyelash combination using Carnival Color Lashes, which she wore for her Mardi Gras look:colorful purple and gold false eyelashes, mardi gras colorful makeup

The glistening gold effect on the tips is achieved by layering golden tinsel C748 Carnival Color Lashes on top of purple C842 Carnival Color Lashes.

For a much simpler and more wearable look layering color lashes, try combining a colorful under lash, like Elegant Lashes C049 Carnival Color Lash, with your favorite “normal” falsies. Here I used C049 blue under lashes with a similar-looking under lash, Elegant Lashes #049 Black, and used both as upper lashes.

natural false eyelashes, lower bottom under lashes, blue false eyelashes

Blue neutralize reds and yellows, making the whites of the eyes look brighter. If your eyes are tired and red (as mine often are), wear blue-tinted lashes, mascara, or eyeliner to help create the illusion of  clearer, whiter eyes.

natural false eyelashes, lower bottom under lashes, blue false eyelashes

The blue lashes are subtle and understated, but they really bring a nice, fresh pop of color to your everyday look.

I Hate That I Love These Brown Eyelashes

Dang it. I was looking forward to experimenting with at least 10 different styles of brown lashes until I came across my favorite one. That day came too soon, because I think I’ve already found The One. *confused emotions of disappointment and joy*

natural brown false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 46 Brown

I’m wearing Elegant Lashes #046 Brown False Eyelashes in the photo above, and I must confess: I am hopelessly in love with these. I really wish I didn’t like them so much, because now I will be biased and compare every other brown eyelash to #046 Brown, but man…. These #046 lashes are really, REALLY something.

natural brown false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 46 Brown

I love everything about the #046 lashes – the shape, the length, the density, the lash band, and of course, the final effect it gives to the eyes. I am a huge fan of Elegant Lashes #046 Black, which I wore to a friend’s wedding and on many different occasions after that. Each time I remember thinking, “Man, I love these. They’re so freaking perfect. I hope I don’t get addicted to them.” Well, I went out and tried the brown version, and … shucks, I’m addicted. (-_-)

natural brown false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 46 Brown

But how can you not fall in love with a product that makes you look like you were born with something you weren’t? I love what Elegant Lashes #46 Brown does for my eyes. I wore them this past Sunday for Easter Service, and they were so perfect and appropriate – pretty but understated (don’t wanna offend any grandmas visiting at church! Haha). What did I do to deserve wearing something as wonderful as this pair of brown eyelashes? Oh. I was feeling lazy and didn’t want to fuss with annoying mascara. Haha! Good things come when you least expect it, I guess. I LOVE these brown lashes!

natural looking brown false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 46 Brown

And look at that. Me likey. Because this style has black hairs mixed in with the brown, it blends more easily with your own lashes for an effortlessly beautiful, natural look. Nobody will know you’re wearing falsies! 😀 But beware – girls might hate on you for being born with naturally luscious lashes. Tsk tsk…. That is the beautiful secret of brown false eyelashes. X)
Oh, forgot to post a picture of the lashes in their packaging. Here you go!

natural brown false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 46 Brown in packagingPretty!!!!!!

Ok, I have done enough raving for now. The #046 lashes get too much love from me (even though it is rightly deserved). I’ll end this post with an irrelevant photo of me holding a tiny little bunny. Because it was Easter a few days ago. But mostly because I am wearing Elegant Lashes #046 Brown and I think the pic is kinda funny. X)

easter bunny and natural brown false eyelashes_Elegant Lashes 46 Brown

I hope you give the #046 lashes a try! They are my personal recommendation for medium-size eyes (whatever that means… try the brown version if you’re new to falsies) and are also great for elongating your eye shape to create the illusion of larger eyes. Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to “like,” tweet, and share! 🙂
